Le
Mans Series 2006
Round 5. Jarama 1000 Kilometers. September 23rd-24th 2006
The
2006 Le Mans Series drew to a close over the weekend of
September 23rd-24th with the final round of the championship
taking place at Jarama in Spain, some 30 kilometers from
Madrid. RML and the team's two drivers, Mike Newton and
Thomas Erdos, arrived at the circuit with a three-point
advantage in the race for titles and an unbeaten qualifying
record to defend. While they would leave the track with
that remarkable qualifying achievement intact, the race
itself would see them most cruelly denied the title. The
MG retired just six minutes from the chequered flag at the
end of a 1000 kilometer race that they had tackled with
sensible restraint and tactical skill. Brief synopsis of
qualifying and the race can be viewed by following the upper
